Rachel Bowden is Seacrest's first state qualifier and medalist in any sport. She has qualified for the state meet 2 years in a row in 3 different events.
Her first trip to the state meet was as an 8th grader (2006). She qualified in both the Long Jump and 300 meter Intermediate Hurdles. She placed 13th in Long Jump in the morning and later that evening qualified for the finals in the hurdles where she placed 8th to receive Seacrest's first State Medal! The very next week she traveled to St. Petersburg, FL where she ran the 200 meter hurdles and won the Middle School State Championship.
Last year she went to the state meet in the High Jump (2007). She soared through the heights until 5'2". On her final attempt she nailed the height for a 5th place finish and her second state medal.
This year (2008) Rachel returned to the state meet as the number 1 seed in High Jump. She cleared all the heights on her first attempt. When the bar reached 5'4" she also cleared that on her first attempt, winning her first, and the schools first, state championship. This is Rachel's third state medal.
James Meyers is the only athlete in school history to qualify for the state finals in two sports.
Last year in Cross Country (2007) James qualified for his first state meet appearance. He made the 1st Team All-District and All-Region teams on his way to Dade City where he finished 136th with a time of 20:03.
Last year in track (2007) James ran what was, at the time, the race of his life to place 4th at the Regional Championships to grab the final qualifying spot for the State Championships. At the state meet he ran an even better race of his life, lowering his PR and school record to 4:39 to place 9th, missing a state medal by 1 place.
This year in Cross Country (2008) he qualified for the State Championship in Cross Country. Traveling all the way to Dade City, FL he raced around a horse track, passing 7 people in the final strides to place 40th in 17:39, beating his long time rival, Taylor Peliska, for the first time.
Katherine Boll is on the same track (no pun intended) as Rachel Bowden. Qualifying for her first state meet as an 8th grader! She placed 4th at Districts with a time of 2:28.89, and 4th at Regionals, leading the pace for the first half of the race, with a time of 2:26.47 to qualify for states. At state's she fought hard against a tough field, placing 7th in her heat, but 10th overall with a time of 2:26.87.
